Salary:

Authority: 

Proceed at own discretion within the guidelines of hospital policies and procedures and keep the Assistant Administrator apprised of resources used in achieving approved goals and objectives operationally and strategically.

Responsibilities:

*Plan, develop, organize, staff, evaluate, and control overall Department of Pharmacy.

*Verify preparatiom of any weekly or monthly productivity production report for Pharmacy as requested by immediate supervisor.

*Coordinate activities of the Pharmacy Department to meet the overll goals and objectives of the hospital.

*Responsible for the management of the Department of Pharmacy including supervison of all personnel, purchase of stock, quality assurance, and all functions pertaining to the Departmnt of Pharmacy operations.

*Responsible for the routine collections and analysis of information to assess the quality of services provided by the pharmacy department.

*Participation in PTC (Formulary Management and other) activities and implementation of its decisions through the departmental resources.

*Review department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually and participate in making recommended changes and annual updating.

*Attend professional organization meetings and seminars to keep current in knowledge, skill, and experience. Maintain active mebership in professional organizations that impact areas of responsibility and apply concepts and technology to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.

*Assist in recruiting, selecting, retaining, and training competent department personnel including competency based systems.

*Purchases and control of pharmacy inventory to provide cost effective and adequate levels of pharmaceuticals and devices through sound formulary management and prudent purchasing/inventory management. 

*Assure the State of Alabama, State Board of Pharmacy, and other standards and regulatory compliance are met.

*Other related duties and activities as necessary to ascertain the mission, vision, and values of the department and authority.

Qualifications:

*College graduate with minimum of B.S. degree, with knowledge of operation of pharmacy, purchasing procedures, performance improvement, and general business management functions.

*Two to five years of experience in hospital pharmacy management with a wide range of responsibilities is preferred.

*Experience in administrative procedures to include employee management, communication skills, reporting procedures, etc.

*Completion of a residency in hospital pharmacy but waived in terms of quality experience in hospital pharmacy systems (intravenous admixture, unit-dose systems, and other current systems).

*Licensed by the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama

*Control Substance Permit issued by the State Board of Pharmacy to purchase and handle controlled substances.

*Registered as a preceptor by the State Board of Pharmacy to train interns and externs, but not required until the given need arises.

*A graduate degree in Administration (Masters of Business Administration, Masters in Hospital Pharmacy Administration, Pharmacy Doctorate) is desirable but not required in lieu of adequate hospital pharmacy experience.

*Must be able to assess the clinical treatment and needs of all patients and to provide age-specific pharmacotherapeutic analysis and consultation to neonates, infants, adolescents, and geriatric patients. Must possess knowledge and skills to provide consultation if requested for treatment for all patients, and assessment of all pharmacotherapeutic treatments ordered.

The city is located south of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and north of Mobile.
